Facts are Stubborn Things (or Mr. Obama and the Truth)

August 13, 2009

During the 2008 presidential campaign, Barack Obama stated that his uncle had helped to liberate the prisoners held in the concentration camp at Aschwitz in 1945. Interestingly enough, it was Soviet troops who liberated that particular camp. Was Barack telling the truth, or was his uncle a part of the Red Army during the war?

Fast forward to the time that the stimulus bill was being debated. Mr. Obama stated that if this bill were passed, unemployment wouldn’t go above 8%, and without it, without its passage, unemployment would go over 8.5%. The bill was passed, yet unemployment is now approaching 10%. Recently, Mr. Obama said that the stimulus bill is working exactly as intended.

Last month, during the celebration of Apollo’s landing on the moon, Mr. Obama reminisced about being in Hawaii with his grandfather at the time of the capsule's re-entry. Unfortunately, Barry was in Indonesia with his adopted father at that time.

About that same time, John Klein, head of the Cable News Network (CNN), sent an e-mail message to Lou Dobbs stating that Mr. Obama’s birth certificate had been destroyed in 2000 when Hawaii digitalized its birth records, and instructing Mr. Dobbs to stop talking about the birth certificate and the fact that Mr. Obama has never produced the original document or even a copy of it. Later in the same week, a state official from Hawaii reiterated her claim that she has held Mr. Obama’s birth certificate and that it states that he was born in Hawaii. So she held it in her hands prior to 2000 and just happens to remember exactly what’s on it? Or does it still exist, and Mr. Klein is lying to Mr. Dobbs?

On his application for admission to the Illinois Bar Association, Barack Hussein Obama affirmed that he had never gone by another name. Yet Barry Soetero went to school in Indonesia, and Barry Soetero and Barack Obama are one and the same person!

In a town hall meeting on July 29th, Mr. Obama stated that the health care plan being debated in the House of Representatives is essentially the same plan that he had as a United States Senator and that he would put his family on it if he could. Unfortunately for Mr. Obama, the facts show that members of the House of Representatives and the Senate get to choose from 17 different plans offered through PRIVATE companies with NO government option. There is no comparison. If Mr. Obama's assertion were true, I would imagine our legislators would have no problem making themselves subject to their own bill. As of this date, however, they have not.

Mr. Obama also stated that the Medicare program that offers health care to our senior citizens would not be affected by the new legislation, yet significant changes to Medicare are exactly what are included in each of the three versions of the helath care reform bills approved by committees in the House of Representatives.

Is it any wonder, then, that when the most prominent of the three health care reform bills under consideration by the House of Representatives (HR3200) speaks of “end of life care”, there is fear that the focus of those words is not about how best to care for the patient but rather how best to end the life of the patient? You need look no further than today’s headlines to know that once the government is in control, seniors are going to be out of luck: Pregnant women, kids, teenagers, and college students are already ahead of seniors in the line to get the flu vaccine later this year.

The truth is that the more government is involved in any program, the more expensive that program becomes. Therefore, the truth is that the best way to reduce health care costs is to "uninvolve" the government. Phase out Medicare and Medicaid. End government mandates that drive up insurance rates. End the cycle of endless paperwork created by government bureaucracies that has driven up health care costs.

Historically speaking, liberty and responsibility go hand in hand. Give a man both, and he is a man. Take away liberty, and he is a slave. Take away responsibility, and he is a child.

The Declaration of Independence states that all men are created equal. We were not created to be slaves nor to remain children. Therefore, we need to have both liberty and responsibility. And that, Mr. Obama, is the truth.
